This article is about the Rankin/Bass character. For the character from the 1998 film, see Comet (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer:The Movie).
Comet is a member of Santa's sleigh team, Coach for The Reindeer Games and one of the supporting characters in the 1964 Rankin/Bass TV film, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. He also makes an appearance in it's 2001 sequel Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and The Island Of Misfit Toys.
Biography[]
Comet appears as the coach of The Reindeer Games where he teaches all the yearling bucks and points out one as Dasher's son. He orders Dasher's son to leap first, which the young buck immediately stumbles, causing Fireball and the others to laugh at him. Comet quiets the bucks and consoles Dasher's son that it was not too bad for the first try. Comet then calls for Rudolph to come over for his turn at leaping. After being told by Clarice that she thinks he is cute, Rudolph leaps high into the air with joy which impresses Comet. to the point that Santa may have a new member of his team already. However when Rudolph's fake nose falls off revealing his real red one, he is laughed at and ridiculed by the other bucks. Comet breaks this up and bans Rudolph from the Reindeer Games.
For unknown reasons, when Rudolph takes the lead on the sleigh team, Comet is not one of the team members. It could be possible that he has retired from the sleigh team or been reassigned to coach young bucks.

Comet has light brown and white fur with long antlers with a blue and red cap on his head and a whistle hung around his neck.
